Business and Commercial Solicitor 

Location: Bedford

Job Type: Full Time (Hybrid working – 3 days x office based and 2 days x working from home)

Hours: Monday - Friday: 9.00am - 5.00pm (35Hrs)

Salary: Dependent on experience

The Role:

Are you an entrepreneurial and outgoing Business and Commercial Solicitor on the lookout for a new role?

The Candidate:

There has never been a more exciting time to join Pure Business Law. Due to an influx of new instructions, we are seeking an ambitious Commercial Solicitor to join our growing modern office team in Bedford on a full-time basis and handle some of the wide range of work that comes into our rapidly growing and successful Commercial Team. We require someone with a minimum of two years proven experience in Commercial Law with a client focused mindset who can hit the ground running with a busy caseload of commercial matters. You will be able to demonstrate a strong intellect, evidenced with a high level of technical experience and be someone who has initiative, drive and excellent client management skills. You must be comfortable dealing with Commercial transactions from start to finish with minimal supervision.

This is an ideal role for a junior to mid-level commercial solicitor who is looking for the chance to really stand out, position themselves for a successful and prosperous career in business and commercial law and be instrumental in the growth of our existing Commercial team.

 

You will be advising a range of clients including companies, partnerships, sole-traders and start-ups. You will be working on a complex and sometimes high-profile caseload of commercial and employment matters. Areas of focus will include:

  • Commercial contracts

  • Company secretarial matters

  • Shareholder agreements

  • Articles of Association

  • Company shares and asset sales and acquisitions

  • Joint ventures- Investment agreements

  • Partnerships

  • Share buybacks

  • Data Protection

  • Intellectual Property

  • Contentious & non contentious Employment matters, representing both Employers and Employees; and

  • Active involvement within business development.

Candidate Specification:

  • A minimum of 2 years PQE in the relevant area of law

  • Good client care skills, provide professional and competent legal advice in accordance with SRA Code of conduct

  • Strong IT skills

  • Effective business development skills with proven marketing strategies

  • Capability to generate fees in accordance with agreed targets

  • Case Management experience (desirable)

  • Ability to adhere to and manage deadlines

  • Good drafting and writing skills, excellent communication, and technical ability

  • Results-driven, keen to progress and hungry to expand expertise.

  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills, both verbal and written with excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Great attention to detail and an ability to communicate professionally and respectfully with clients and third parties.

  • Accurate time recording and billing skills.

  • An understanding of and commitment to our Company values (WHAM).

  • Willingness to guide and mentor colleagues when required.

  • Good team player skills but self-motivated and able to work autonomously and pro-actively. We would expect you to play an active role within the team and support other team members during busy times.

  • Able to deliver against short deadlines accurately with a proven ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload.

  • Excellent time management, organisational and administrative skills. We would expect you to demonstrate an understanding and awareness of good financial health, working capital and regular billing.

Trainee Solicitor

Location: Bedford

Job Type: Full Time Training Contract (2 Years)

Hours: Monday-Friday 9.00am-5.00pm (35 Hrs)

Start date: ASAP

Salary: £21,000.00-£23,500.00 per year

Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelors of Law Degree (LLB)

  • Minimum of 12 months experience in Contract and Commercial Law or Commercial Property

  • Must have completed the Legal Practice Course (LPC)

The Role:

Trainees are a top priority for our firm. Candidates should have an excellent fit with our vision and values and a genuine passion for the areas of law that we do.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with lots of enthusiasm, a great sense of humour and a “never say never” attitude. You will need to demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, an ability to cope with responsibility and the desire to immediately add value to the firm. You will also be keen to show us what makes you stand out from the crowd, demonstrating this in your covering letter.

Duties & Responsibilities

Within well-defined parameters and under the supervision of a Solicitor to:

  • Assist in advising clients on a broad range of low to medium risk matters of a legal and/or compliance nature including: general contract law, company commercial matters, employment, consumer protection, commercial property, disputes and litigation and data protection;

  • Review, draft and negotiate low to medium risk commercial contracts and other legal documents, providing advice and guidance thereon;

  • Undertake legal research as required;

  • Assist in the delivery, evaluation, monitoring and reporting of policies, standards and procedures, and to draft required documentation;

  • Support Fee Earners and other staff with the administration of their legal files as required and under supervision;

  • Required to complete the Legal Practice Course and Period of Recognised Training as laid down by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, so as to achieve qualification as a Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales.

You (Abilities) and Your Skills:

  • Able to follow procedures;

  • Good research, data organisation, communication, note taking and telephone skills;

  • A positive and professional attitude, including dependability, confidentiality and discretion;

  • Strong analytical and strategic-thinking skills;

  • Excellent IT skills (including SharePoint, Visio, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc);

  • Pro-active approach to delivering work, able to take initiative in a busy programme and work independently;

  • Well organised and able to handle multiple priorities at one time;

  • Excellent writing skills and the ability to communicate complex research findings and ideas to non-specialist audiences;

  • High levels of numeracy and familiarity with basic financial documents e.g. budgets, invoices etc; and

  • Strong presentation skills and the confidence to network with a diverse range of stakeholders.
